WHAT RESOURCES DOES QMPS HAVE TO CONDUCT RESEARCH?

With four QMPS lab sites strategically located throughout the state of New York and state-of-the-art microbiology and molecular laboratory facilities, QMPS is in a unique position to conduct both applied and basic field research. Furthermore, our affiliation with the College of Veterinary Medicine through the Epidemiology and Animal Health Diagnostic Centers at Cornell University provide us content area expertise, uncommon to other organizations.  Within QMPS, an active Research Committee, and established project management and quality assurance systems serve as the backbone for research.  Together, they provide a working structure for project acquisition, planning, implementation, and finalization, and ensure thorough data collection, analysis and reporting.

WHAT TYPES OF RESEARCH DOES QMPS CONDUCT?

Since milk quality is influenced by a seemingly infinite number of factors, research projects conducted by QMPS are diverse and range from product evaluation (e.g. milking equipment, diagnostic instruments, therapeutic compounds, teat dips, and bedding additives) to epidemiological modeling and molecular strain typing.

WHAT TRAINING DOES QMPS PERSONNEL HAVE?

Aside from having several veterinarians, microbiologists, epidemiologists, and certified milking equipment technicians, QMPS personnel are certified in Project Management, and trained in Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines, which expand our ability to conduct FDA- or USDA-regulated pharmaceutical studies.  As of August 21, 2009, QMPS has obtained ISO 17025 accreditation from A2LA for most of its laboratory operations. Furthermore, our expertise in biostatistics ensures the validity of study designs and the associated data analyses.

DO YOU WANT TO SPONSOR A PROJECT AT QMPS?

While some studies are initiated by QMPS faculty, many are initiated by private industry. If you are interested in having QMPS conduct a study for your organization, please contact Brad Rauch by email (bjr12@Cornell.edu) or by phone (607) 255-1272.

ARE YOU A PRODUCER WHO WANTS TO PARTICIPATE IN RESEARCH AT QMPS?

For many of its field studies, QMPS is looking for dairy farms and veterinary clinics to partner. In all studies, participants are reimbursed in some form for the use of their time and efforts and compensated for the use of their farm and animals. If your farm or practice would be interested to participate in field studies, please contact Brad Rauch by email (bjr12@Cornell.edu) or by phone (607) 255-1272.
